The presentation competition of OnWings! challenges young musicians
Budding young talent is not forgotten during OnWings!. Especially for them, an international competition for wind bands is held, in which young bands and ensembles will present themselves with contemporary flair and the use of media to three different target groups: children, existing audiences, and new audiences.
Participants will have to prepare a contemporary presentation which appeals to the 21st century visitor, the music lover who does not merely play cd’s at home or downloads music off the internet, but who also goes out to listen to live music in the best possible surroundings; the true fan who wants the live interaction between musician and audience and consciously looks for a profound experience.
Participants must be aware of the fact that performing for children is completely different from performing for an existing or as yet untapped audience. Although the musical message remains unchanged, it has to be presented in a different way. They will be judged by an expert jury, but the members of this jury will also offer them advice and guidance after the competition.
During the preparation period, the bands which have been selected for the competition can call on arrangers, who have been engaged as coaches by the festival for assistance. These are not members of the jury. After the competition the bands will leave Groningen with a suitcase full of new ideas, a DVD of their own performances, several engagements for concerts elsewhere, an extensive network in the international world of wind music and some appealing other prizes.
The presentation competition is open to the public.
