Ensembles can now register for the ground breaking OnWings! Presentation Competition. All admitted ensembles compete for the prizes and will give two or three concerts during the festival: for children, for an excisting audience and for a new audiences.
To help the competing ensembles to optimize their performance in every aspect, they can be part of unique a coaching starting as off April 1st 2011. Arrangers are available to help the ensembles to perfect their arrangements while specialists in the field of new media can help them to make creative presentations. Other experts will advise on other aspects, like the educational element for the children’s concert.
At the end of the Competition, the ensembles receive a DVD-recording of their concerts besides returning home with lots of new contacts, fresh ideas and prizes.
Terms & Conditions OnWings! Presentation Competition 2011
1. The concept of the OnWings! competition is unique and focuses on musical practice of the future. Presentation and communication are central aspects and are next to the musical presentation the most important appraisal criterion. There are no drop-outs and the ensembles can make use of coaching as of April 1st 2011.
2. The competition consists of three parts, of which two are compulsory.
3. A maximum of six ensembles per part can be admitted.
4. The second International OnWings! Presentation Competition will take place in Groningen from May 19th until May 21st 2011. Preceding the Competition (from April 1st, 2011) selected entrants can avail themselves of coaching.
5. Entry to the competition is open to professional musicians under 36 years old who play a wind instrument and are in a band together. Ensembles have to be formed by at least 3 musicians and a maximum of 15 musicians, where the wind players have to be in the majority. Special presenters/actors may be added for the specific audience groups per part of the competition.
6. Ensembles may submit two or three different programmes for the concerts, but this is not compulsory. The children’s concert (May 19th), the concert in a special venue (May 21st) and the programme in the Auditorium of De Oosterpoort (May 20th) may not last longer than 45 minutes each, including any changes. There are no obligatory works.
7. Ensembles may be supplemented by a presenter/actor who targets a concert’s specific audience group. If a concert includes a spoken presentation, this may not take up more than 20% of the overall length of the program.
8. The use of new media during the concerts is encouraged, as is creativity and originality with regard to presentation.
9. The OnWings! office must receive a written personal letter of motivation and CV’s of all ensemble members before March 1st 2011. Ensembles will be informed about the selection for the competition not later than March 15th 2011.
10. Participants may not have any other professional commitments during the competition (May 19th - 21st, 2011).
11. The decision on entry to the competition lies with the OnWings! Board, advised by a selection committee. This committee has the right to make further inquiries about entrants. Members of the selection committee do not serve as adjudicators.
12. Ensembles that have not been selected for the competition have the opportunity to visit the festival and participate in workshops and individual lessons given during the festival by a.o. members of the jury. Ensembles can also, by invitation of the selection committee, participate in concerts in various venues on May 21st 2011.
13. The order in which ensembles will participate in the various parts of the competition is determined by draw. This rule may be deviated from when the programme gives cause to do so.
14. The selection committee assesses the pieces of music the entrants have submitted. Advice of the selection committee to the entrants thereon is binding.
15. The organisation will supply accommodation and breakfast.
16. The OnWings! Foundation has exclusive rights to all visual and audio recordings, as well as radio, television and internet broadcasts of all rounds of the competition. These may be posted on YouTube.
17. There are various prizes: cash prizes as well as prizes in the form of concerts or lessons by renowned musicians. More information will be given in the period preceding the competition.
18. Prize money will be taxed.
19. When an ensemble wins a prize which is a concert, the ensemble is obliged to give this concert. Should the ensemble fail to do so, the prize winner may forfeit all claims to prizes, awards and performances. This decision lies within the discretion of the Foundation’s Board.
20. The present or future management of musicians may not claim commission on performances the Foundation has arranged as part of a prize.
21. All decisions made by the board and the international competition adjudicators are final.
22. By signing the entry form, entrants agree to the terms and conditions of OnWings!.
23. If there is a discrepancy between any translation of the Terms and Conditions and the original, the Dutch text prevails.
24. The registration fee per accepted ensemble is 250 euro.
