To help the competing ensembles in the OnWings! Competition optimize their performace in every aspect, they can be part of a unique coaching course starting the 1st of march 2011.
Arrangers are available to help the ensembles to perfect their arrangements while specialists in the field of new media can help them to make creative presentations. Other experts will advise on other aspects, like the educational element for the children’s concert.
OnWings! 2009 contracted the following coaches:
Enrique Crespo (trombone player German Brass)
was trombone player of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra and the Radio Symphony Orchestra Stuttgart and one of the founders of the German Brass Quintet, that later became a 10-piece ensemble and now is one of the most famous and succesfull professional brass ensembles in the world. With German Brass Crespo made more than 20 cd-recordings and toured the whole world.
Enrique Crespo arranges music for German Brass in a wide variety of styles (including baroque, classical, jazz, folk and popular music from Latin and South America).
Henk Meutgeert (componer & arranger)
became piano player at The Skymasters jazz orchestra in 1980 en accompanied famous names like Dizzy Gillespie, Mel Tormé and Freddy Hibbart. In 1996, he founded the New Concert Big Band, that was later nenamed as the Jazz Ochestra of the Concertgebouw.
He arranges compositions and the stage of the Amsterdam BIM-House, where he performs each month in winter time, is his music laboratory. The results of his experiments can be heard by a wider audience in het famous Amsterdam Concertgebouw. It is the passion of Henk Meutgeert to bring together all different music styles. In doing so, his Jazz Ochestra of the Concertgebouw performed with a.o. the North Netherlands Symphony Orchestra and the Limburg Symphony Orchestra.
Roger Webster (international trumpet and cornet soloist)
discovered the cornet at the age of ten and was asked in 1988 to become the principal cornet player of the world’s most legendary brass band ever, the Black Dyke Band. He played for the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, studied Psychology and got his Masters Degree in Music at Leeds Metropolitan University.
Nowadays, Roger Webster is the Principal at Grimethorpe Colliery Band, is ambassador for Besson Musical Instruments, University teacher at the Royal Northern College of Music and Lecturer in Psychology.
