OnWings! surprising, sensational & challenging

From May 19th until May 21th 2011, the Dutch city of Groningen is OnWings! These days Groningen will host sensational concerts with music from wind players on different locations.

The aim of the concerts of OnWings! 2011 is bringing attention to all sorts and styles of wind music. From classical wind quintets to jazz- and pop trumpet players, from large amateur wind orchestras to solo concerts in collaboration with the Noord Nederlands Orkest, all will be featured during these three days in various venues in town.

The OnWings! concerts differ in a number of ways:

• the programmes takes place in the open, on special venues and in De Oosterpoort;
• concerts by professionals as well as amateurs:
• presentations of especially for On Wings! written compositions;
• special decoration and atmosphere during the concerts in reference to today’s music lover;
• practice of new media;
• “Master - trainee” concerts, with amongst others jury members and students.

All three festival days will have a different focus. Thursday the HaFaBra orchestras and the brass players will take centre stage, while Friday is dedicated to classical wind players. The Saturday will present various performances, amongst others pop and jazz players.
